◆ 19일 서구문화회관서 주민 공청회
인천 서구는 19일 오후 4시 서구문화회관 소공연장에서 '인천시 서구 명칭 변경에 관한 법률' 발의를 위한 주민 공청회를 개최한다고 12일 밝혔다. 7월 1일 인천시 행정체제 개편을 앞두고 서구의 새로운 이름으로 '서해구'가 최종 선정됐다. 이번 공청회는 명칭 변경에 관한 법률안 발의 전 주민과 전문가 등의 의견을 추가로 수렴할 필요가 있다는 지역구 국회의원의 요구에 따라 마련됐다.
◆ 사전 신청 없이 주민 누구나 참석 가능
공청회는 법률안 제정 취지 및 주요 내용 설명을 시작으로 관계 전문가 토론, 주민 의견 청취 순으로 진행된다. 사전 신청 없이 주민 누구나 자유롭게 참석할 수 있다. 김교흥 국회의원(서구갑)과 이용우 국회의원(서구을)도 공청회에 참석해 구민들의 목소리를 직접 들을 예정이다.
◆ 2024년부터 명칭 변경 절차 추진
서구는 2024년 하반기 구 명칭 변경 추진위원회를 구성했다. 지난해 명칭 공모, 구민 여론조사, 권역별 주민 설명회 등을 거쳐 구 명칭 변경 절차를 추진했다. 이번 공청회를 통해 최종 의견을 수렴한 뒤 법률안 발의 절차에 돌입할 예정이다.

Gathering resident opinions before legislative bill proposal ahead of July administrative reorganization
◆ Public hearing at Seo-gu Cultural Center
Incheon Seo-gu announced on January 12 that it will hold a public hearing for the proposal of the 'Act on Name Change of Incheon Seo-gu' at 4 p.m. on January 19 at the small performance hall of Seo-gu Cultural Center. 'Seohae-gu' has been selected as the new name for Seo-gu ahead of Incheon's administrative reorganization on July 1. The public hearing was arranged at the request of local National Assembly members who said additional opinions from residents and experts should be gathered before proposing the name change legislation.
◆ Open to all residents without prior registration
The hearing will begin with an explanation of the purpose and main contents of the legislation, followed by expert discussions and resident opinion gathering. Any resident can freely attend without prior registration. National Assembly members Kim Kyo-heung (Seo-gu Gap) and Lee Yong-woo (Seo-gu Eul) will also attend the hearing to directly hear residents' voices.
◆ Name change process underway since 2024
Seo-gu established a name change promotion committee in the second half of 2024. The district has pursued the name change process through name submissions, resident surveys, and regional resident briefings last year. Final opinions will be gathered through this public hearing before proceeding with the legislative proposal process.
