김 원내대표는 지난 6월 13일 선출됐다. 민주당은 이날 오후 비공개 최고위원회의와 의원총회를 열고 원내대표 재선출 등 수습책을 논의한다. 후임 원내대표는 전임자의 잔여 임기만 수행한다. 차기 원내대표 후보군으로는 3선의 박정·백혜련·한병도 의원 등이 거론된다. 경선보다 추대로 선출하자는 목소리도 나온다.

The Democratic Party will hold a closed Supreme Council meeting and general assembly this afternoon to discuss remedial measures including re-election of floor leader. The successor floor leader will only serve the remaining term of the predecessor. Third-term lawmakers Park Jung, Baek Hye-ryeon, and Han Byung-do are mentioned as candidates for the next floor leader. Some voices call for selection by nomination rather than primary.
