이종호 인천광역시 중구의회 의장은 2026년 신년사를 통해 18만 중구 구민에게 새해 인사를 전했다. 이 의장은 지난 한 해 의정활동 성과를 밝혔다. 중구의회는 영종국제도시 종합병원 건립과 인천대교 지능형 CCTV 설치를 촉구했다. 하늘5중 신설과 통학버스 확대를 촉구하고 하늘누리센터 건립 현장을 방문했다. 제3연륙교 명칭 변경과 통행료 무료화를 촉구하고 영종국제도시 바이오 산업 특화단지 국가산단 지정을 건의했다. 제물포 르네상스 사업 관련 1·8부두와 동인천 역사 개발, 역사문화환경 보존지역 고도제한 완화 등 지역 현안 해결에 노력했다.

◆ 분구 및 의회 역사 마무리

이 의장은 "올해 2026년은 우리 중구에 있어 가장 역사적이고도 엄숙한 해가 될 것"이라고 말했다. 오는 7월 중구는 '제물포구'와 '영종구'로 분구되며 거대한 전환점을 맞이한다. 인천광역시 중구의회도 올해 6월 제9대 의회 임기를 끝으로 35년의 의정활동을 마무리하고 역사 속의 한 페이지를 장식하게 된다.

◆ 의장 각오

이 의장은 "중구의회의 마지막 의장으로서 어느 때보다 무거운 책임감을 느낀다"고 밝혔다. 이어 "행정 구역 개편 과정에서 구민들께서 단 한 치의 소외나 불편함도 느끼지 않도록 집행부와 긴밀히 협력하겠다"며 "중구의 역사가 가장 아름답게 마무리되고 새로 출범할 두 자치구가 성공적으로 안착할 수 있도록 모든 역량을 쏟아붓겠다"고 강조했다.

Incheon Metropolitan City Jung-gu Council Chairman Lee Jong-ho delivered New Year greetings to 180,000 Jung-gu residents through his 2026 New Year address. Chairman Lee announced the council's legislative achievements over the past year. Jung-gu Council urged the construction of Yeongjong International City General Hospital and installation of intelligent CCTV on Incheon Bridge. The council urged the establishment of Haneul 5 Middle School and expansion of school buses, and visited the Haneul Nuri Center construction site. The council urged the name change and toll-free passage for the 3rd Mainland Bridge and recommended the designation of Yeongjong International City Bio Industry Specialized Complex as a national industrial complex. The council worked on resolving regional issues including Piers 1 and 8 and Dongincheon Station development related to the Jemulpo Renaissance project, and relaxation of height restrictions in historical and cultural environment preservation areas.

◆ District Division and Council History Conclusion

Chairman Lee said, "This year 2026 will be the most historic and solemn year for our Jung-gu." In July, Jung-gu will face a major turning point as it divides into 'Jemulpo-gu' and 'Yeongjong-gu.' Incheon Metropolitan City Jung-gu Council will also conclude its 35 years of legislative activities and mark a page in history as the 9th council's term ends in June this year.

◆ Chairman's Resolution

Chairman Lee stated, "As the last chairman of Jung-gu Council, I feel a heavier sense of responsibility than ever." He emphasized, "We will closely cooperate with the executive branch so that residents do not feel any alienation or inconvenience during the administrative district reorganization process. We will pour all our capabilities to ensure that Jung-gu's history concludes most beautifully and that the two new autonomous districts successfully take root."
