충청내륙고속화도로 마지막 미개통 구간인 3·4공구가 30일 개통한다. 충북도와 국토교통부는 28일 30일 낮 12시 3공구 충주 대소원면 신촌교차로중앙탑면 검단교차로(4.2km) 구간과 4공구 충주 금가면제천 봉양읍(13.2km) 구간을 개통한다고 밝혔다. 기존 40.4km 단계별 개통에 이어 잔여구간 17.4km가 개통되면서 전 구간 57.8km가 완성된다.

◆ 청주~충주 통행시간 53분에서 30분으로 단축

전 구간 개통으로 청주 금암교차로에서 충주 검단교차로까지 통행시간이 53분에서 30분으로 약 23분 단축된다. 청주충주제천 지역 접근성이 향상되면서 충북 북부권역 반나절 생활권이 현실화된다. 도내 북부권과 중부권 이동시간이 대폭 줄어들어 물류 및 인적 교류가 원활해질 전망이다.

◆ 1조305억원 투입, 8년 만에 완공

충청내륙고속화도로는 1990년대 초 개통한 청주~제천 간 충청대로(36번 국도·592번 지방도)의 차량 정체 해소를 위해 추진됐다. 일부 구간을 신설하고 기존 도로 선형을 개량하는 자동차전용도로 사업으로 총사업비 1조305억원이 투입됐다. 2017년 착공 후 8년 만에 완공되며 지역경제와 관광 활성화에도 긍정적 효과를 가져올 것으로 기대된다.

The Chungcheong Inland Expressway was launched to resolve traffic congestion on Chungcheong-daero (National Route 36 and Provincial Route 592) between Cheongju and Jecheon, which opened in the early 1990s. A total of 1.0305 trillion won was invested in this motor-vehicle-only road project, which built new sections and improved existing road alignments. Construction began in 2017 and reaches completion after 8 years. The project is expected to bring positive effects to the regional economy and tourism revitalization.
