경기도가 성탄절부터 시작되는 올겨울 최강 한파에 대비해 선제적 대응에 나섰다.

기상청은 24일 25일 밤부터 경기도 내 다수 시·군에 한파특보가 발효될 가능성이 있다고 밝혔다. 26일 아침 최저기온은 영하 16도에서 영하 11도로 올겨울 들어 가장 추울 것으로 전망된다.

경기도는 25일 오전부터 한파 초기대응 합동전담팀을 가동한다. 상황총괄·복지·상수도 등 7개 반 12개 부서가 참여하는 비상 대응체계를 운영하며, 시·군과 함께 한파특보 상황을 실시간 모니터링한다. 취약계층 보호, 시설물 점검, 동파 예방 등 예방조치도 강화할 계획이다.

김동연 지사는 23일 31개 시·군에 특별지시 사항을 전파했다. 주요 내용은 독거노인·노숙인 등 한파 취약계층 보호 활동 강화, 농작물 냉해 및 가축 폐사 예방, 수도시설 동파 예방 홍보 및 신속한 복구, 긴급재난문자·마을방송 등을 활용한 한파 행동요령 홍보 등이다.

경기도는 한파특보 발효 시 연장형 한파쉼터와 응급대피소를 즉시 가동하고 야간·주말 운영 여부를 집중 점검한다. 노숙인 밀집지역에 대한 거리 상담·순찰도 강화해 한파로 인한 인명피해 예방에 총력을 기울일 방침이다.

Gyeonggi Province Activates Cold Wave Response Team Ahead of Christmas Freeze

Morning lows of minus 16 degrees forecast for Dec. 26; full mobilization to protect vulnerable groups and prevent frozen pipes

Gyeonggi Province is taking preemptive measures against the strongest cold wave of this winter, set to begin on Christmas Day.

The Korea Meteorological Administration announced on December 24 that cold wave warnings are likely to be issued for multiple cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province starting the night of December 25. Morning low temperatures on December 26 are forecast to range from minus 16 to minus 11 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest day of this winter.

Gyeonggi Province will activate its Joint Cold Wave Initial Response Team starting the morning of December 25. An emergency response system involving 12 departments across seven divisions—including situation management, welfare, and water supply—will be operated, with real-time monitoring of cold wave warning conditions in coordination with cities and counties. The province plans to strengthen preventive measures including protection of vulnerable groups, facility inspections, and prevention of frozen pipes.

Governor Kim Dong-yeon issued special instructions to all 31 cities and counties on December 23. Key directives include strengthening protection activities for cold wave-vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone and homeless individuals, preventing crop frost damage and livestock deaths, promoting frozen pipe prevention for water facilities and ensuring rapid repairs, and publicizing cold wave safety guidelines through emergency disaster texts and village broadcasts.

When cold wave warnings are issued, Gyeonggi Province will immediately operate extended warming shelters and emergency evacuation centers, with intensive checks on nighttime and weekend operations. The province also plans to strengthen street counseling and patrols in areas with high concentrations of homeless individuals to prevent casualties from the cold wave.
