◆ 가석방심사위원회 부적격 판단
음주운전 뺑소니 사고로 소망교도소에서 복역 중인 트로트 가수 김호중(34)이 성탄절 특사 가석방 심사에서 부적격 판단을 받았다. 17일 법조계에 따르면 법무부 산하 가석방심사위원회는 이날 김씨를 포함한 가석방 대상 수용자들에 대한 적격 여부를 검토했다. 검토 결과 김씨는 가석방 대상에 부적합하다는 판단을 받았다. 형법상 유기징역을 선고받은 자는 형기의 3분의 1이 지나면 가석방이 가능하다. 김씨는 나이와 범죄 동기, 죄명, 재범 위험성 등을 종합적으로 고려해 일정 조건을 충족하면 자동으로 가석방 심사 대상에 오르는 관련법에 따라 대상에 올랐다.
◆ 음주 뺑소니 후 도주·범행 은폐 시도
김씨는 지난해 5월 9일 오후 11시 44분께 서울 강남구 압구정로에서 음주운전을 하다 중앙선을 침범해 반대편 도로의 택시를 들이받았다. 사고를 낸 후 김씨는 현장에서 도주했다. 김씨는 매니저 장모씨에게 허위 자수를 시키거나 자신의 휴대전화 3대를 압수한 경찰에게 비밀번호를 제공하지 않는 등 범행 은폐를 시도했다. 김씨는 음주운전 및 뺑소니 사고 사실을 계속 부인하다 열흘 만에 범행을 시인했다.
◆ 죄질 불량으로 가석방 부적격
김씨는 음주 상태로 운전하고 뺑소니 사고를 낸 후 도주하는 등 죄질이 나빠 부적격 판단을 받은 것으로 보인다. 김씨는 음주 뺑소니 혐의 등으로 실형을 선고받고 서울구치소에서 복역하다가 국내 유일 민영교도소인 여주 소망교도소로 이감돼 현재까지 수형 생활 중이다.

◆ Deemed Ineligible for Parole Due to Poor Nature of Crime
Mr. Kim appears to have been deemed ineligible due to the poor nature of his crime, including driving while intoxicated, causing a hit-and-run accident, and fleeing. Mr. Kim was sentenced to prison for drunk driving hit-and-run charges and served time at Seoul Detention Center before being transferred to Somang Prison in Yeoju, the only privately-run prison in Korea, where he continues to serve his sentence.
