서울 택시기사 10명 중 7명이 60세 이상으로, 고령 운전자가 전체 교통사고의 80% 이상을 차지하는 것으로 나타났다.

4일 국민의힘 이경숙 서울시의원이 최근 서울시로부터 제출받은 자료를 분석한 결과, 서울의 택시 운수종사자 가운데 60세 이상이 전체의 약 75%를 차지하는 것으로 조사됐다.

◆ 택시 종사자 6만8763명 중 60세 이상 75%

서울택시조합과 서울개인택시조합 자료에 따르면, 올해 기준 서울시의 택시 운수종사자는 총 6만8763명으로 집계됐다. 이 가운데 60대가 3만2678명, 70대가 1만8028명, 80대 이상도 865명으로 나타났다.

전체 종사자의 4명 중 3명이 60세 이상이다. 개인택시 종사자만 놓고 보면 그 비율은 더욱 높아져, 총 4만8311명 중 60대 이상이 3만7799명으로 약 78%를 차지했다. 반면 20대와 30대 종사자는 각각 68명, 528명에 불과했다.

◆ 올해 교통사고 1986건 중 83% 60세 이상 기사 발생

한국교통안전공단 통계에 따르면, 올해 한 해 동안 서울의 택시 운수종사자 교통사고는 총 1986건 발생했다. 이 중 60대 운전자가 946건, 70대 이상이 701건으로 전체의 약 83%가 60세 이상 기사에 의해 발생한 것으로 분석됐다.

특히 개인택시 부문에서는 70대 기사들의 사고가 378건, 80대 이상도 23건 발생했다.

◆ "고령 운전자 안전 위한 세심한 정책 필요"

이경숙 의원은 "서울의 택시 산업은 많은 고령층에게 삶의 터전이자 시민을 연결하는 생계의 현장"이라며 "운전자의 경험이 안전으로 이어질 수 있도록 세심한 정책이 필요하다"고 밝혔다.

According to data from Seoul Taxi Association and Seoul Private Taxi Association, the total number of taxi transport workers in Seoul as of this year was 68,763. Among them, 32,678 were in their 60s, 18,028 in their 70s, and 865 over 80 years old.

Three out of four total workers are over 60 years old. Looking only at private taxi workers, the ratio is even higher, with 37,799 out of 48,311 total workers, or about 78%, being over 60 years old. In contrast, workers in their 20s and 30s numbered only 68 and 528 respectively.

◆ 83% of 1,986 traffic accidents this year caused by drivers over 60

According to Korea Transportation Safety Authority statistics, a total of 1,986 traffic accidents involving Seoul taxi transport workers occurred during this year. Among them, 946 cases involved drivers in their 60s and 701 cases involved drivers over 70, with approximately 83% of the total caused by drivers over 60 years old.

Particularly in the private taxi sector, there were 378 accidents by drivers in their 70s and 23 accidents by drivers over 80.

◆ "Detailed policies needed for elderly driver safety"

Council member Lee Kyung-sook stated "Seoul's taxi industry is both a livelihood and a site connecting citizens for many elderly people," and added "Detailed policies are needed so that driver experience can lead to safety."
