◆ 공업지역과 신도시에 들어선 수상 건축물
수원시는 수원디자인대상 수상작들을 활용해 도시 경관의 품격을 높이고 있다. 도시 곳곳에 분포한 수상작들은 역사적 경관과 현대적 디자인이 조화를 이루며 시민들의 문화 공간으로 자리잡았다. 수원시 영통구 원천동 414-5번지에 위치한 다니엘열방학교는 오래된 공업지역 내 눈길을 끈다. 교회 공동체가 공장과 주차장 부지를 5년간 개조해 대안학교로 운영 중이다. 건물은 하부의 붉은 벽돌과 상부의 하얀색 직선형 구조를 결합했다. 영통동 36-11번지의 영흥숲공원은 2025 수원디자인대상을 수상했다. 도심 숲을 보전하면서 영흥수목원을 조성했다. 방문자센터는 국내산 목재를 활용한 목구조로 건축했고, 입체순환로 '구름마루길'은 수원 팔색길과 연결된다. 팔달구 우만동 482-7번지의 원더풀 우만은 1970년대 상가주택 사이에 위치한다. 12층 상업공간과 34층 단독주택으로 구성됐다. 최상층에는 천창을 활용한 수영장이 설치됐다.
◆ 광교신도시와 행궁동 수상작 집중
우만동 582번지의 수원지관서가는 인테리어 부문 수상작이다. 30여 년 역사의 중학교 건물을 SK케미칼이 후원해 리모델링했다. 오래된 천장과 입면을 철거해 개방감을 확보했고, 구조체만 남긴 공간에 야외중정을 조성했다. 광교신도시는 디자인 우수 건축물들이 밀집한 지역이다. 이의동 1222-2번지의 르디투어는 2021년 최초 대상작으로 선정됐다. 전 층을 관통하는 빈 공간과 순환형 계단이 특징이다. 이의동 1371번지의 광교1동성당은 돔과 아치를 현대적으로 재해석했다. 하동 1017-2번지의 갤러리아백화점 광교점은 암석층 문양을 형상화한 외관과 나선형 삼각 유리 구조를 적용했다. 원천동 587-2번지의 아이엠센터는 블록을 쌓은 형태의 외관을 보인다. 1000석 규모 공연장과 교육시설을 갖췄다. 이의동 1356번지의 CJ블로썸파크는 2022년 수상작으로, 물결치는 외관이 기업 로고를 형상화했다.
◆ 수원화성 일원 아시아도시경관상 후보지 출품
팔달구 행궁동은 수원화성의 역사적 경관과 현대 디자인이 어우러진다. 북수동 72번지의 테이스팅뮤지엄은 2021년 수상작이다. 사찰 건물을 리모델링해 레스토랑으로 운영한다. 기둥과 서까래 등 전통 구조체를 보존했다. 신풍동 169번지의 스탠다드오브스터프는 같은 해 인테리어 부문 수상작이다. 구옥의 평면을 유지하면서 각 공간마다 다른 색채를 적용했다. 수원화성과 화성행궁 일원은 2011년 제1회 대한민국 경관대상을 수상했다. 올해는 아시아도시경관상 후보지로 출품됐다. 수원화성은 1997년 세계유산으로 등재됐다. 이재준 수원특례시장은 "디자인이 곧 도시 경쟁력이라는 생각으로 시민과 행정이 함께 디자인을 고민하는 도시를 만들어 디자인의 가치를 더 많은 시민과 함께 나누겠다"고 밝혔다.

◆ Award-Winning Buildings in Industrial Areas and New Cities
Suwon City is enhancing its urban landscape quality by utilizing Suwon Design Award-winning projects. The award-winning works distributed throughout the city have established themselves as cultural spaces for citizens, harmonizing historical landscapes with modern design. Daniel Yeolbang School, located at 414-5 Woncheon-dong, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon City, attracts attention in the old industrial area. A church community has converted a factory and parking lot site over five years into an alternative school. The building combines red brick at the lower level with a white linear structure at the upper level. Yeongheung Forest Park at 36-11 Yeongtong-dong won the 2025 Suwon Design Award. The park preserved the urban forest while creating Yeongheung Arboretum. The visitor center was constructed with a wooden structure using domestic timber, and the three-dimensional circulation path 'Gureummaru-gil' connects to Suwon's Eight Color Trail. Wonderful Wooman at 482-7 Wooman-dong, Paldal-gu, is situated among 1970s commercial-residential buildings. It consists of commercial space on floors 1-2 and a detached house on floors 3-4. A swimming pool utilizing skylights is installed on the top floor.
◆ Award Winners Concentrated in Gwanggyo New City and Haenggung-dong
Suwon Jigwanseoga at 582 Wooman-dong is an interior category award winner. SK Chemical sponsored the remodeling of a 30-year-old middle school building. The project removed old ceilings and facades to secure openness and created an outdoor courtyard in spaces where only structural elements remained. Gwanggyo New City is an area where design-excellent buildings are concentrated. Le Ditour at 1222-2 Uiwon-dong was selected as the first grand prize winner in 2021. It features an empty space penetrating all floors and a circular staircase. Gwanggyo 1-dong Catholic Church at 1371 Uiwon-dong reinterpreted domes and arches in a modern style. Galleria Department Store Gwanggyo at 1017-2 Hadong applied an exterior embodying rock layer patterns and a spiral triangular glass structure. IM Center at 587-2 Woncheon-dong displays a block-stacked exterior form. It has a 1,000-seat performance hall and educational facilities. CJ Blossom Park at 1356 Uiwon-dong, a 2022 award winner, embodied the corporate logo with its wave-like exterior.
◆ Hwaseong Fortress Area Submitted as Asian Townscape Award Candidate
Haenggung-dong, Paldal-gu, blends Hwaseong Fortress's historical landscape with modern design. Tasting Museum at 72 Buksu-dong is a 2021 award winner. A temple building was remodeled into a restaurant. Traditional structural elements such as pillars and rafters were preserved. Standard of Stuff at 169 Sinpung-dong is an interior category winner from the same year. The project maintained the old building's floor plan while applying different colors to each space. The Hwaseong Fortress and Haenggung Palace area won the first Korea Landscape Grand Prize in 2011. This year it was submitted as a candidate for the Asian Townscape Award. Hwaseong Fortress was inscribed as a World Heritage site in 1997. Lee Jae-jun, Mayor of Suwon Special City, stated, "With the belief that design equals urban competitiveness, we will create a city where citizens and administration consider design together and share the value of design with more citizens."
