인천 연수구(구청장 이재호)는 지난 16일 연수구 국제자문관으로 맷 홀튼(코튼우드 하이츠시 의원)과 제임스 박(유타대학교 아시아캠퍼스 대외협력처 실장)을 위촉했다. 이번 위촉은 지난 7월 연수구와 코튼우드 하이츠시(시장 마이크 웨이커스)가 체결한 우호 협약 이후 양 도시 간 협력과 국제 교류를 강화하기 위해 마련됐다.
제1호 연수구 국제자문관인 맷 홀튼은 2023년부터 코튼우드 하이츠시 의원으로 활동하며 연수구와의 우호도시 협약 체결을 주도했다. 폭넓은 네트워크를 바탕으로 유타주 솔트레이크와 코튼우드 하이츠 지역 한인사회 발전 및 국제교류의 가교 역할을 수행할 것으로 기대된다. 제2호 국제자문관으로 위촉된 제임스 박 실장은 유타대학교 미국 본교 졸업 후 아시아캠퍼스에서 대외협력 업무를 수년간 수행하며 코튼우드 하이츠시 한국전통공원 콘셉트 프로젝트와 도시계획 협업 등을 통해 도시 간 교류 협력에 기여할 전망이다.
이번 위촉으로 양 도시는 우호 관계는 물론 도시 경쟁력 강화를 위한 상시 연락 체계 구축과 교차 방문 등 지속적인 소통·협력 시스템을 추진할 계획이다. 코튼우드 하이츠시는 솔트레이크시티 공항 인접, 세계적 스키 리조트 밀집, 핀테크·벤처·헬스케어 산업 본사 입지 등 스포츠·관광·경제 산업이 조화된 도시로, 유타 한인상공회의소가 자리 잡고 있다.

Yeonsu District Appoints Matt Holton and James Park as International Advisors
Strengthening Cooperation with Sister City Cottonwood Heights and Enhancing Urban Competitiveness
Yeonsu District (Mayor Lee Jae-ho) appointed Matt Holton, a council member of Cottonwood Heights, and James Park, Director of External Relations at the Asia Campus of the University of Utah, as international advisors on October 16. The appointments follow the sister city agreement signed between Yeonsu District and Cottonwood Heights (Mayor Mike Wickers) in July and aim to strengthen cooperation and international exchange between the two cities.
Matt Holton, the first international advisor of Yeonsu District, has served as a Cottonwood Heights council member since 2023 and played a key role in establishing the sister city agreement with Yeonsu. Leveraging his extensive network, he is expected to act as a bridge for the development of the Korean community in Salt Lake and Cottonwood Heights and facilitate international exchanges. James Park, appointed as the second international advisor, graduated from the University of Utah’s main campus in the U.S. and has managed external relations at the Asia Campus for several years. He has contributed to cross-city cooperation through projects such as the Korean Traditional Park concept and city planning collaborations in Cottonwood Heights.
Through these appointments, the two cities plan to maintain regular communication and conduct reciprocal visits to strengthen urban competitiveness. Cottonwood Heights, located near the Wasatch Mountains and Salt Lake City Airport, is known for its ski resorts, trekking tourism, and the presence of fintech, venture, and healthcare companies, making it a hub for sports, tourism, and economic activities, with the Utah Korean Chamber of Commerce established in the city.
