인천광역시는 1월 12일 관내 생활폐기물이 안정적으로 처리되고 있다고 밝혔다.
◆공공·민간 소각 병행 체계 구축
2026년 1월 1일부터 수도권 생활폐기물 직매립이 금지되면서 수도권 매립지에서 처리하던 생활폐기물 190톤이 민간처리로 전환됐다. 중구, 계양구, 서구는 민간업체와 계약을 완료했다. 강화군과 부평구는 계약 체결을 준비 중이다. 동구, 미추홀구, 연수구, 남동구는 공공소각 처리로 문제가 없어 3월 중 계약을 완료할 계획이다.
1월 8일 기준 인천시 관내 소각 대상 생활폐기물 총발생량은 7,429톤이다. 공공소각이 6,568톤(89%), 민간소각이 861톤(11%)을 처리하고 있다. 기후에너지환경부와 인천시, 군·구, 인천환경공단은 비상상황반을 운영하며 민간 처리시설을 점검하고 있다.
◆비상상황 대응 체계 마련
인천시는 비상사태 발생 시 공공소각시설 저장조 여유 물량을 확보하고 송도·청라 소각시설 간 교차 반입을 추진한다. 공공소각시설 가동일수 확대로 안정적인 처리가 가능하도록 대응할 계획이다. 정승환 환경국장은 "시민 불편이 발생하지 않도록 생활폐기물이 안정적으로 처리될 수 있도록 철저를 기하겠다"며 "예외적으로 발생하는 생활폐기물 직매립량 역시 매립 제로화를 목표로 지속적으로 감축해 나가겠다"고 말했다.

Incheon Metropolitan City announced on January 12 that household waste generated within the city is being processed stably.
◆Combined Public and Private Incineration System Established
Since January 1, 2026, direct landfill disposal of household waste in the metropolitan area has been prohibited. 190 tons of household waste previously processed at metropolitan landfills has transitioned to private processing. Jung-gu, Gyeyang-gu, and Seo-gu completed contracts with private companies. Ganghwa-gun and Bupyeong-gu are preparing to sign contracts. Dong-gu, Michuhol-gu, Yeonsu-gu, and Namdong-gu have no issues with public incineration processing and plan to complete contracts by March before the major overhaul period of public incineration facilities.
As of January 8, total household waste subject to incineration in Incheon City is 7,429 tons. Public incineration processes 6,568 tons (89%), and private incineration handles 861 tons (11%). The Ministry of Climate and Environment, Incheon City, districts and counties, and Incheon Environment Corporation operate an emergency response team and inspect private processing facilities.
◆Emergency Response System Prepared
Incheon City will secure spare capacity in public incineration facility storage tanks in case of emergency and promote cross-delivery between Songdo and Cheongna incineration facilities. The city plans to respond by expanding the operation days of public incineration facilities to enable stable processing. Environmental Bureau Director Jeong Seung-hwan said, "We will thoroughly ensure stable processing of household waste to prevent inconvenience to citizens," adding, "We will continue to reduce the amount of exceptionally generated household waste sent to direct landfills with the goal of zero landfilling."
