◆ 시각장애 판정 고백

송승환은 방송에서 총감독을 맡았던 평창 동계올림픽이 끝난 후 시각장애 4급 판정을 받은 사실을 털어놓는다. 평창 동계올림픽 이후 6개월 동안 급속도로 시력이 나빠진 것을 느낀 그는 여러 병원을 찾아다니고 미국까지 가는 노력을 기울였지만 "6개월 이내 실명할 것 같다"는 진단을 받았다.

◆ 극복 과정

송승환은 "시각장애 4급 판정을 받고 딱 한 번, 밤새 펑펑 울었다"며 이후 털고 일어나 할 수 있는 최대한의 일을 찾으려고 했다고 밝혔다. 현재 형체만 보일 뿐 거의 보이지 않는 상태지만 "눈이 나빠지면 좋은 것도 많아요. 못 볼 거 안 봐도 되고"라며 긍정적인 모습을 보였다.

◆ 송승환 프로필

송승환은 1965년 아역 성우로 데뷔해 배우 겸 공연 제작자로 활동하고 있다. 대표작 '난타'를 기획·제작했고, 2018년 평창 동계올림픽 개막식 총감독을 맡았다. 현재 연극 '더 드레서'에서 박근형, 정동환, 오만석 등과 함께 무대에 오르고 있다.

Actor Song Seung-hwan Reveals Grade 4 Visual Impairment After PyeongChang Olympics

Diagnosed with potential blindness within six months; continues theater performances

Actor and producer Song Seung-hwan has opened up about the challenges he faced after being diagnosed with grade 4 visual impairment.

Song will appear on MBN's 'Kim Joo-ha's Day & Night' airing at 9:40 p.m. on January 10.

During the broadcast, Song reveals that he was diagnosed with grade 4 visual impairment after the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, where he served as executive director of the opening ceremony. He noticed his vision deteriorating rapidly over six months following the Olympics and sought treatment at multiple hospitals, even traveling to the United States, only to be told he would likely lose his sight within six months.

"After receiving the grade 4 visual impairment diagnosis, I cried all night just once," Song said. He added that he then picked himself up and tried to find whatever work he could still do.

Song explained that he can currently only see shapes and has almost no vision. Nevertheless, he maintained a positive outlook, saying, "When your eyesight gets worse, there are good things too. You don't have to see things you don't want to see."

Song debuted as a child voice actor in 1965 and has worked as an actor and performance producer. He created and produced the internationally acclaimed show 'Nanta' and served as executive director of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics opening ceremony. He is currently performing in the play 'The Dresser' alongside Park Geun-hyung, Jung Dong-hwan, and Oh Man-seok.
