공직선거법 위반 혐의로 고발당한 최대호 경기 안양시장이 최근 경찰에 피의자 신분으로 출석해 조사를 받았다.

◆ 경찰 소환 조사

안양만안경찰서는 8일 최근 최 시장을 소환 조사했다고 밝혔다. 최 시장은 지난해 8월 18일 안양예술공원 인근 음식점에서 열린 선거구민 모임에 참석해 회원 10여 명에게 30만 원 상당의 식사를 제공한 혐의를 받고 있다.

◆ 시장 측 입장

경기도선거관리위원회가 이 혐의로 최 시장을 고발했으며, 최 시장은 "비서가 실수로 결제했으나 즉시 취소했다"고 주장하고 있다.

◆ FC안양 제재금 대납 혐의

최 시장은 자신이 구단주로 있는 프로축구 FC안양에 한국프로축구연맹이 부과한 징계 제재금을 대납해 기부행위를 위반한 혐의도 받고 있다. 이 사건은 안양동안경찰서에서 별도로 수사 중이다.

최 시장은 지난해 5월 20일 기자회견에서 '오심 피해'를 언급하며 시민구단이 차별받고 있다고 주장했다. 한국프로축구연맹은 해당 발언과 관련해 지난해 6월 구단에 제재금 1000만 원 징계를 내렸고, 최 시장이 이를 사비로 납부해 안양시동안구선거관리위원회로부터 조사 및 행정조치를 받았다.

◆ 수사 경과

이 혐의는 한 시민이 최 시장을 고발하면서 수사가 시작됐다. 안양동안경찰서는 조만간 최 시장을 피의자 신분으로 소환해 조사할 계획이다.

Anyang Mayor Choi Dae-ho Questioned by Police Over Election Law Violations

Under investigation for providing meals to constituents and paying club's disciplinary fine

Anyang Mayor Choi Dae-ho was recently questioned by police as a suspect on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act.

The Anyang Manan Police Station announced on January 8 that it had recently summoned and questioned Mayor Choi. He is accused of providing meals worth approximately 300,000 won to about 10 members at a constituent gathering held at a restaurant near Anyang Art Park on August 18 last year.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Election Commission filed a complaint against Mayor Choi, who maintains that "my secretary mistakenly made the payment, but it was immediately canceled."

Mayor Choi also faces separate allegations of violating donation regulations by personally paying a disciplinary fine imposed by the Korea Professional Football League on FC Anyang, the professional football club where he serves as owner. This case is being investigated by the Anyang Dongan Police Station.

At a press conference on May 20 last year, Mayor Choi claimed that the citizens' club was being discriminated against, citing "refereeing errors." The K League subsequently imposed a 10 million won fine on the club in June. Mayor Choi paid the fine with personal funds and received an investigation and administrative action from the Anyang Dongan District Election Commission.

The investigation began after a citizen filed a complaint against the mayor. The Anyang Dongan Police Station plans to summon Mayor Choi for questioning as a suspect in the near future.
