◆ 2029년 만장 예상에 증축 결정

광명시(시장 박승원)가 증가하는 납골당 수요에 선제적으로 대응하기 위해 '광명 메모리얼파크'를 증축한다고 26일 밝혔다.

광명 메모리얼파크는 자경로 153(일직동 497)에 위치한 시립 봉안시설로 2009년 개관했다. 개인단 1만3천940기, 부부단 1만9천12기 등 총 3만2천952기의 봉안시설을 갖추고 있다. 12월 23일 기준 2만4천40기(약 73%)가 사용 중이다.

매년 화장 수요가 증가하면서 현재 시설로는 2029년 말 만장이 예상된다. 2023년 기준 광명시 화장률은 95.8%로 전국 평균(92.9%)과 경기도 평균(94.9%)을 모두 상회한다.

◆ 봉안단 3만7천기 추가 설치

광명시는 '광명 메모리얼파크 증축 타당성 조사 및 기본계획 수립 용역'을 거쳐 메모리얼파크 부지 내 별동 증축을 추진하기로 결정했다.

증축으로 봉안단 약 3만7천기가 추가 설치될 예정이다. 광명시는 현재의 화장 증가 추세를 반영할 경우 증축 이후 최소 2043년까지 안정적인 이용이 가능할 것으로 전망했다.

광명시는 2032년 증축 공사 준공을 목표로 실시설계 용역 등 관련 행정 절차를 거쳐 사업을 추진할 계획이다.

◆ 시민 86.3% 증축 찬성

이번 증축 결정에는 시민 공감대가 뒷받침됐다. 지난 5월 20일부터 23일까지 광명시민 600명을 대상으로 실시한 설문조사 결과 응답자의 86.3%(518명)가 메모리얼파크 증축에 찬성했다. 79%(474명)는 증축 이후 봉안시설 이용 의향이 있다고 답했다.

박승원 광명시장은 "장사시설은 단순한 시설 확충의 문제가 아니라 시민의 삶을 어디까지 책임질 것인가에 대한 도시의 태도"라며 "광명시는 삶의 시작부터 마지막 순간까지 존중받는 도시가 되도록 장사·복지 인프라를 확충해 나갈 것"이라고 밝혔다.

Gwangmyeong Memorial Park is a municipal memorial facility located at 153 Jagyeong-ro (497 Iljik-dong) that opened in 2009. It has a total of 32,952 columbarium units including 13,940 individual units and 19,012 couple units. As of December 23, 24,040 units (approximately 73%) are in use.

With cremation demand increasing annually, the current facility is expected to reach full capacity by the end of 2029. As of 2023, Gwangmyeong City's cremation rate was 95.8%, exceeding both the national average (92.9%) and Gyeonggi Province average (94.9%).

Gwangmyeong City decided to construct a separate building within the Memorial Park site after completing a 'Feasibility Study and Basic Plan for Gwangmyeong Memorial Park Expansion.'

Approximately 37,000 columbarium units will be added through the expansion. Gwangmyeong City projects that stable use will be possible until at least 2043 after the expansion, reflecting the current cremation growth trend.

Gwangmyeong City plans to proceed with the project through administrative procedures including detailed design services, targeting completion of the expansion construction in 2032.

◆ 86.3% of Citizens Support Expansion

Citizen consensus supported this expansion decision. A survey of 600 Gwangmyeong citizens conducted from May 20 to 23 showed that 86.3% (518 respondents) supported the Memorial Park expansion. 79% (474 respondents) indicated willingness to use the columbarium facilities after expansion.

Gwangmyeong City Mayor Park Seung-won said, "Memorial facilities are not simply a matter of facility expansion but reflect a city's attitude toward how far it will take responsibility for citizens' lives. Gwangmyeong City will expand memorial and welfare infrastructure so that it becomes a city where citizens are respected from the beginning to the end of their lives."
