◆ 민선 8기 최대 공약 본격 추진

서울 성북구는 24일 민선 8기 최대 공약이자 오랜 지역 현안이었던 성매매 집결지 '미아리 텍사스' 철거를 시작했다고 밝혔다. 미아리 텍사스는 1950~60년대 조성된 서울 대표적 성매매 집결지로 수십 년간 도시 슬럼화와 범죄 등 각종 사회 문제의 상징이었다. 신월곡제1구역은 성북구 관문이자 서울 북부 교통 요충지로 미아뉴타운 완성을 위해 사업 추진이 시급했던 곳이다.

◆ 이주율 99.4% 달성…성매매 업소 4곳 잔존

성북구는 관계 기관 및 사업 시행자와 협력해 주거지, 일반 영업소, 성매매 영업소 등 이주를 추진해 이주율 99.4%를 기록 중이다. 전체 115개 성매매 업소 중 4개가 아직 남아 있으며 이 중 3개는 올 연말까지 문을 닫을 계획이다. 1개 업소는 여전히 이주를 거부하고 있다. 성북구는 성매매 여성 자활 지원을 위해 1인당 최대 210만원의 자활 지원비를 지급하는 등 맞춤형 지원을 병행했다.

◆ 지상 46층 아파트 단지 조성 예정

철거 후 재개발을 통해 지하 6층, 지상 46층 규모 11개동 2201세대 아파트 단지가 들어설 예정이다. 임대 197세대가 포함되며 오피스텔 170실과 문화공원, 어린이공원도 조성된다. 이승로 성북구청장은 "신월곡제1구역 내 미아리텍사스 철거가 본격 착수됨에 따라 '주거 명품 도시 성북'에 한 걸음 더 나아가게 됐다"며 "이번 철거 착수는 단순한 환경 개선을 넘어 성북구의 역사와 정체성을 새롭게 세우는 중요한 계기가 될 것"이라고 말했다.

◆ Major Pledge of 8th Elected Term in Full Swing

Seoul Seongbuk-gu announced on November 24 that it began demolition of the 'Miari Texas' red-light district, the biggest pledge of the 8th elected term and a long-standing local issue. Miari Texas was established in the 1950s-60s as Seoul's representative red-light district and has been a symbol of urban decay and crime for decades. Sinwolgok District 1 is the gateway to Seongbuk-gu and a transportation hub in northern Seoul, where project implementation was urgent to complete Mia New Town.

◆ 99.4% Relocation Rate Achieved…4 Establishments Remain

Seongbuk-gu has achieved a 99.4% relocation rate by working with relevant agencies and project operators to relocate residences, general businesses, and prostitution establishments. Of the total 115 prostitution establishments, 4 still remain, with 3 of them planning to close by the end of this year. One establishment continues to refuse relocation. Seongbuk-gu provided customized support, including up to 2.1 million won per person in self-sufficiency support for women in prostitution.

◆ 46-Story Apartment Complex Planned

After demolition, redevelopment will create an 11-building apartment complex with 2,201 units, 6 underground floors and 46 above-ground floors. This includes 197 rental units, 170 officetel units, a cultural park, and a children's park. Seongbuk-gu Mayor Lee Seung-ro stated, "With the full-scale demolition of Miari Texas in Sinwolgok District 1, we are one step closer to becoming a 'premium residential city Seongbuk.'" He added, "This demolition is not just an environmental improvement but an important opportunity to newly establish the history and identity of Seongbuk-gu."
