◆ 김동연 경기도지사는 20일 파주 LG디스플레이 R&D동에서 차세대 OLED 투자현장 간담회를 열고 디스플레이 산업 현황을 점검했다. 이는 김 지사의 17번째 민생경제 현장투어다. 간담회에는 김경일 파주시장, 박정 국회의원, 안명규·이용욱 도의원, LG디스플레이 및 주요 협력사 대표 등 30여 명이 참석했다. 김 지사는 "경기도, 파주시, LG디스플레이가 한 팀이 돼 리쇼어링을 성공적으로 추진하겠다"며 "작게는 파주시의 상전벽해를, 크게는 K-디스플레이 발전의 전기가 되길 바란다"고 밝혔다.

◆ LG디스플레이는 2025년 6월부터 2027년 6월까지 파주 LCD 일반산업단지에 약 7천억 원 규모의 OLED 신기술 준비 및 인프라 투자를 추진한다. 정철동 LG디스플레이 대표이사는 "20년간 경기도, 파주시와 함께해 현재의 위치를 확보할 수 있었다"고 감사했다. 간담회에서 협력사들은 기술경쟁력 강화, 전문인력 확보, 지역 인프라 개선 등 현장 애로사항을 제시했다. 황철주 주성엔지니어링 대표이사는 경기도 소부장 산업단지 조성을 요청했고, 김태훈 엠티어 대표이사는 운정중앙역에서 공단으로 연결되는 버스 운행을 제안했다.

◆ 경기도와 파주시는 지난 7월 31일 LG디스플레이와 국내복귀 투자협약(MOU)을 체결했다. 차세대 OLED 설비투자가 본격화되면 협력기업 성장, 고용 확대, 지역경제 활력 제고 등 경기북부 전반의 경제효과가 기대된다. 김 지사는 이후 경기미래교육 파주캠퍼스에서 국내 최초 인증 레벨4 무인자율주행차 'ROii(로이)'를 시연했다. 파주는 12월 자율주행자동차 시범운행지구로 지정될 예정이며, 2026년 운정신도시·교하동·금촌동에서 자율주행버스 2대를 우선 투입한다.

◆ Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province held a 'Next-Generation OLED Investment Site Meeting' at LG Display's R&D Building in Paju on November 20 to review the display industry status. LG Display CEO Jeong Cheol-dong expressed gratitude, stating, "By partnering with Gyeonggi Province and Paju City for 20 years, we secured our current position." During the meeting, partner companies presented on-site challenges including strengthening technological competitiveness, securing specialized personnel, and improving regional infrastructure. CEO Hwang Chul-ju of Jusung Engineering requested establishment of a Gyeonggi Province component and material industrial park, and CEO Kim Tae-hun of MTR proposed bus service connecting Unjeong Central Station to the industrial complex.

◆ Gyeonggi Province and Paju City signed a domestic return investment agreement (MOU) with LG Display on July 31. As next-generation OLED equipment investment accelerates, economic effects are expected across northern Gyeonggi, including partner company growth, employment expansion, and enhanced regional economic vitality. Governor Kim subsequently participated in a demonstration of 'ROii,' South Korea's first certified Level 4 autonomous vehicle, at Gyeonggi Future Education Paju Campus. Paju receives designation as an autonomous vehicle demonstration district in December, with plans to deploy two autonomous shuttles in Unjeong New City, Gyeongha-dong, and Geumchon-dong starting in 2026.
