고양특례시(시장 이동환)는 밀원 감소와 이상기온으로 어려움을 겪는 양봉농가의 신소득원 발굴을 위해 장항습지의 생태자원을 활용한 지역특화 양봉산물 개발 시범사업을 추진한다고 18일 밝혔다.
장항습지는 한강하구에 위치한 수도권 최대 자연형 습지로, 2021년 람사르습지로 등록된 국내 대표 도시형 생태습지다. 각종 조류와 수생식물이 서식하는 청정 생태공간으로 생태적 가치가 높으며, 봄철에는 선버들이 개화한다.
◆ 선버들 꿀, 아카시아꿀보다 높은 항산화 성분 확인
시는 이번 시범사업을 통해 이른 봄철(3~4월 중순) 개화하는 장항습지 선버들 군락의 밀원 가치를 검증하고 고품질 꿀의 생산 가능성을 탐색할 계획이다.
고양시 농업기술센터의 선행연구 결과에 따르면, 선버들 꿀은 항산화 성분인 페놀화합물과 플라보노이드 함량이 아카시아꿀보다 높게 분석됐으며, 생산성 또한 밀원수로서 충분한 가치가 있는 것으로 확인됐다.
시는 원활한 사업 추진을 위해 환경부와 협의를 진행해 습지보호지역 내 행위제한 적용배제 승인을 받았다. 이에 따라 사업 기간 중 출입관리, 환경보전, 안전교육 등 기술지원과 상품화 방안도 모색할 계획이다.
◆ 양봉농가 대상 28일까지 신청 접수
시범사업 신청 대상은 고양시에 등록된 양봉농가(100봉군 이상)이며, 신청 기간은 17일부터 28일까지다. 신청서는 고양시청 누리집 농업기술센터 공지사항에서 내려받아 작성 후 방문 제출하면 된다.
시 관계자는 "이번 시범사업은 장항습지의 생태적 가치를 보전하면서 농가소득을 높이는 생태기반 지역상생 모델로 추진될 것"이라며 "향후 선버들 꿀을 고양시의 대표 특산물로 육성해 지역 브랜드 가치를 높이고, 지속가능한 양봉산업 기반을 마련하겠다"고 밝혔다.

Discovering New Income Sources for Farms Through Ramsar Wetland Ecological Resources
Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 18th that it will pursue a pilot project to develop regionally specialized beekeeping products utilizing the ecological resources of Janghang Wetland to discover new income sources for beekeeping farms suffering from reduced nectar sources and abnormal temperatures.
Janghang Wetland is the largest natural wetland in the metropolitan area located in the Han River estuary and is a representative urban ecological wetland in Korea registered as a Ramsar Wetland in 2021. It is a clean ecological space where various birds and aquatic plants inhabit, with high ecological value, and willows bloom in spring.
◆ Willow Honey Confirmed to Have Higher Antioxidant Components Than Acacia Honey
Through this pilot project, the city plans to verify the nectar value of the willow colonies in Janghang Wetland that bloom in early spring (mid-March to April) and explore the possibility of producing high-quality honey.
According to preceding research results from the Goyang City Agricultural Technology Center, willow honey was analyzed to have higher levels of phenolic compounds and flavonoids, which are antioxidant components, compared to acacia honey, and its productivity was also confirmed to have sufficient value as a nectar tree.
The city conducted consultations with the Ministry of Environment for smooth project implementation and received approval for exemption from activity restrictions within the wetland protection area. Accordingly, the city plans to provide technical support for access management, environmental conservation, and safety education during the project period and explore commercialization measures.
◆ Applications Accepted Until the 28th for Beekeeping Farms
Eligible applicants for the pilot project are beekeeping farms registered in Goyang City (with 100 or more bee colonies), and the application period runs from the 17th to the 28th. Application forms can be downloaded from the Agricultural Technology Center notice section of the Goyang City Hall website, completed, and submitted in person.
A city official stated, "This pilot project will be promoted as an ecology-based regional coexistence model that preserves the ecological value of Janghang Wetland while increasing farm income," adding, "We will cultivate willow honey as Goyang City's representative specialty product in the future to enhance regional brand value and establish a foundation for a sustainable beekeeping industry."
