인천시는 27일 ㈜스튜디오다시물결(서구 오류동)이 개발한 해양 생분해성 부표가 해양수산부 '인증부표 품질인증위원회' 심사를 통과했다고 밝혔다.
이 제품은 인천시가 추진한 '바이오플라스틱 지원센터 구축사업'을 통해 실증 지원을 받았다. 지자체 지원으로 개발된 해양 생분해성 부표가 인증을 받은 것은 국내 첫 사례다.

국내 양식장은 스티로폼 부표로 인한 해양 미세플라스틱 오염 문제가 심각했다.
정부는 2023년 11월부터 스티로폼 부표 사용을 금지하고 플라스틱 인증 부표 사용을 의무화했다. 그러나 기존 인증 부표도 해양에서 완전 분해되지 않아 오염 저감 효과가 제한적이었다.
영국 맨체스터대 연구팀은 2018년 네이처 지오사이언스에서 인천 해안의 미세플라스틱 농도가 세계 최고 수준이라고 발표했다.
◆해양 완전 분해·탄소 배출 50% 감축
인천시는 한국건설생활환경시험연구원과 해양 생분해성 부표를 연구개발했다.
이번 인증 제품은 유실·파손 시 해양에서 완전 분해된다. 기존 부표와 동급 이상의 내구성을 확보했으며, 기존 플라스틱 부표 대비 탄소 배출량을 50% 이상 줄였다.
인천시는 이 제품을 양식장에 보급하고 해외 수출도 확대할 계획이다.

The government banned the use of Styrofoam buoys starting in November 2023 and mandated the use of certified plastic buoys. However, existing certified buoys did not completely decompose in the ocean, limiting their pollution reduction effects.
A research team from the University of Manchester in the UK published in Nature Geoscience in 2018 that Incheon's coastline had one of the world's highest concentrations of microplastics.

Incheon City conducted research and development of marine biodegradable buoys with the Korea Conformity Laboratories.
The certified product completely decomposes in the ocean when lost or damaged. It secured durability equal to or greater than existing buoys and reduced carbon emissions by more than 50% compared to existing plastic buoys.
Incheon City plans to distribute this product to aquaculture farms and expand overseas exports.
