인천 서구가 '서해구' 명칭 변경과 관련한 여론조사를 올해 상반기 다시 실시한다.
서구는 지난해 1월부터 여론조사를 진행해 8월 서해구로 명칭을 최종 선정했다. 그러나 지역구 국회의원들(김교흥·이용우)이 주민 의견 수렴이 충분하지 않다며 여론조사 재실시를 요청했다. 지난해 서구의회와 인천시의회 의견 청취 과정에서 '졸속 행정'이라는 비판을 받았다.
당초 계획대로라면 명칭 변경 법률 제정은 지난해 마무리하고 올해부터 표지판·현판 교체 등 후속 작업에 착수했어야 했다. 그러나 법률 제정 절차가 멈추면서 행정 일정이 지연되고 있다.
서구 관계자는 "분구 이전에 명칭 변경을 목표로 추진하고 있지만 시점을 확답하기는 어렵다"고 말했다.

Incheon Seo-gu will re-conduct a public opinion survey on the "Seohae-gu" name change in the first half of this year.
Seo-gu conducted surveys starting January last year and finalized the name as Seohae-gu in August. However, local National Assembly members (Kim Kyo-heung and Lee Yong-woo) requested a re-survey, stating that resident opinion gathering was insufficient. This measure is interpreted as being conscious of criticism for "hasty administration" during the process of hearing opinions from Seo-gu Council and Incheon City Council last year.
According to the original plan, legislation for the name change should have been completed last year, with follow-up work such as replacing signs and nameplates starting this year. However, the administrative schedule is being delayed as the legislative process has stalled.
A Seo-gu official stated, "We are pursuing the goal of changing the name before the district division, but it is difficult to confirm the timing."
