◆ 인요한 의원 의원직 사퇴 선언

인요한 국민의힘 비례대표 의원이 10일 의원직 사퇴를 전격 선언했다. 2024년 4·10 총선에서 비례대표로 당선된 지 1년 6개월여 만이다. 인 의원은 이날 국회 소통관에서 기자회견을 열고 "지난 1년 반 동안의 의정활동을 마무리하고 국회의원직을 떠나 본업으로 돌아가길 희망한다"고 밝혔다. 인 의원은 "저 자신부터 모든 기득권을 내려놓고 본업에 복귀해 국민 통합과 국가 발전에 기여하고자 한다"고 덧붙였다.

◆ "진영 논리가 국가 발전 장애물"

인 의원은 사퇴 배경으로 정치권의 진영 논리를 지적했다. 인 의원은 "오직 진영 논리만을 따라가는 정치 행보가 국민을 힘들게 하고 국가 발전에 장애물이 되고 있다"고 말했다. 인 의원은 "흑백 논리와 진영 논리를 벗어나야 국민 통합이 가능하다"며 "희생 없이는 변화가 없다"고 강조했다. 장동혁 지도부의 만류에도 인 의원은 사퇴 의사를 굽히지 않았다. 인 의원의 사퇴로 비례대표 다음 순번인 이소희 변호사(전 세종시의원)가 의원직을 승계한다.

◆ 대한민국 1호 특별귀화자 출신 의사

인 의원은 '대한민국 1호 특별귀화자'이자 의사 출신이다. 19세기 미국에서 건너온 유진 벨 선교사의 외증손자로 4대째 한국에서 교육·의료 활동을 펼쳤다. 인 의원은 한국형 구급차 개발, 대북 의료지원 활동 등 공로를 인정받아 2012년 특별귀화 1호로 한국인이 됐다. 인 의원은 2023년 10월 23일 김기현 대표 재임 시절 국민의힘 혁신위원장으로 위촉돼 윤석열 정부 당시 집권 여당의 내부 혁신을 이끌다 42일 만에 물러났다. 혁신위원장 시절 총선 불출마를 선언했으나 2024년 총선에서 국민의미래 비례대표 8번으로 당선됐다.

Rep. In became Korea's first special naturalized citizen in 2012 in recognition of his contributions including Korean-style ambulance development and medical aid to North Korea. Rep. In was appointed as the People Power Party Innovation Committee Chairman on October 23, 2023 during Rep. Kim Gi-hyeon's tenure as party leader, leading internal reform of the ruling party during the Yoon Suk-yeol administration before stepping down after 42 days. Although he declared he would not run in the general election during his time as Innovation Committee Chairman, he was elected as number 8 on the People's Future proportional representative list in the 2024 general election.
