◆ 변동불거, 33.94% 득표로 1위

교수신문은 8일 2025 올해의 사자성어 설문조사 결과를 발표했다. 1위는 변동불거(變動不居)였다. 전국 대학교수 766명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시했다. 변동불거는 '세상이 잠시도 멈추지 않고 끊임없이 흘러가면서 변한다'는 의미다. 33.94%의 득표율을 기록했다. 올해의 사자성어 선정은 25회째다.

◆ 추천 교수 "격동하는 한국 현대사 반영"

양일모 서울대 자유전공학부 교수가 변동불거를 추천했다. 양 교수는 "지난 연말 계엄령이 선포됐고 올봄 헌법재판소가 대통령을 탄핵했다"고 말했다. 양 교수는 "정권이 교체됐고 계엄 실체를 둘러싼 공방으로 여야는 치열하게 대결했다"고 설명했다. 양 교수는 "K컬처 성공과 APEC 개최로 국가 위상이 높아졌지만 국내외 불안 요인은 지속되고 있다"며 "변동불거는 한국 사회가 거센 변동의 소용돌이 속에 놓여 있으며 미래가 불확실한 시대에 안정과 지속 가능성을 고민해야 한다는 시대적 메시지를 상징한다"고 밝혔다.

◆ 2위 천명미상·3위 추지약무·4위 구밀복검·5위 강약약강

2위는 천명미상(天命靡常)으로 26.37%를 득표했다. '하늘의 뜻은 일정하지 않다'는 의미다. 민심 변화에 순응하지 않으면 천명이 옮겨간다는 뜻이다. 3위는 추지약무(趨之若鶩)로 20.76%를 기록했다. '오리 떼처럼 우르르 몰려다닌다'는 의미다. 사실 검증보다 감정적 반응이 앞서는 세태를 지적했다. 4위는 구밀복검(口蜜腹劍)으로 10.31%를 득표했다. '입에는 꿀이 있고 배 속에는 칼이 있다'는 뜻이다. 5위는 강약약강(强弱弱强)으로 8.62%를 기록했다. 불평등 심화의 구조적 문제를 언급했다.

Kyosu Shinmun announced the results of the 2025 Four-Character Idiom of the Year survey on the 8th. Byeondong-bulgeo (變動不居) ranked first. The survey targeted 766 university professors nationwide. Byeondong-bulgeo means "the world never stops and constantly flows and changes." It received 33.94% of the votes. This is the 25th year of selecting the Four-Character Idiom of the Year.

◆ Recommending Professor Says "Reflects Turbulent Modern Korean History"

Professor Yang Il-mo of Seoul National University's College of Liberal Studies recommended Byeondong-bulgeo. Professor Yang said, "Martial law was declared late last year and the Constitutional Court impeached the president this spring." He explained, "The government changed and the ruling and opposition parties fiercely clashed over the reality of martial law." Professor Yang stated, "National status has risen through K-culture success and APEC hosting, but domestic and international instability continues. Byeondong-bulgeo symbolizes the message that Korean society is in a whirlpool of fierce change and must consider stability and sustainability in an era of uncertain future."

◆ 2nd Cheonmyeong-misang, 3rd Chuji-yakmu, 4th Gumil-bokgeom, 5th Gangyak-yakgang

Cheonmyeong-misang (天命靡常) ranked second with 26.37%. It means "Heaven's will is not constant." It implies that the mandate of heaven shifts if one does not adapt to changes in public sentiment. Chuji-yakmu (趨之若鶩) ranked third with 20.76%. It means "rushing like a flock of ducks." It pointed out the trend where emotional reactions precede fact verification. Gumil-bokgeom (口蜜腹劍) ranked fourth with 10.31%. It means "honey in the mouth, a sword in the belly." Gangyak-yakgang (强弱弱强) ranked fifth with 8.62%. It addressed structural problems of deepening inequality.
