연구소 규모 약 1만 5,980㎡(약 4,800평)로 2029년 하반기 준공 목표다. 의약품 제조 및 품질관리 기준(GMP)을 충족하는 바이오 의약품 생산지원센터와 바이오 기반 기술지원센터 입주한다. 약 100명 전문 인력 상주해 유전자치료제 연구 중심으로 첨단 바이오 분야 핵심 연구 수행한다.
◆ 664억 원 경제효과 창출, 국가 미래산업 견인 기대
KTR 분석에 따르면 연구소 건립으로 약 664억 원 경제효과 발생하고, 연간 85억 원 기업지원 효과 창출한다. 임병택 시흥시장은 "KTR 시흥 바이오메디컬 연구소가 정부 국정과제인 의료 AI·제약·바이오헬스 강국 실현 뒷받침할 핵심 거점 역할 한다"며 "이번 기공식은 AI·바이오 융합 클러스터 조성 첫 단추인 만큼, 바이오·제약 산업 전초기지 역할하는 시흥이 국가 미래산업 견인하는 도시로 거듭나도록 노력하겠다"고 말했다. 기공식에는 임병택 시장, 김현철 KTR 원장 등 관계자 약 200명 참석한다.

Siheung Mayor Lim Byung-taek states "KTR Siheung Biomedical Research Institute serves as key hub supporting government's national agenda to realize medical AI, pharmaceutical, and biohealth powerhouse" and notes "This groundbreaking ceremony marks first step in creating AI and bio convergence cluster. Siheung, functioning as outpost for bio and pharmaceutical industries, will make every effort to transform into city driving the nation's future industries." Groundbreaking ceremony attended by approximately 200 officials including Mayor Lim Byung-taek and KTR President Kim Hyun-chul.
