5개 주요 광역자치단체가 특별사법경찰 협의체를 꾸려 검찰청 폐지에 따른 후속 대책을 논의한다.
23일 서울시 민생사법경찰국에 따르면 서울시 주도로 주요 5개 광역자치단체 특사경 협의체가 구성된다.
참가 대상은 5개 광역자치단체 특사경 전담조직(또는 부서)의 장이다.
서울시 민생사법경찰국, 경기도 특별사법경찰단, 인천시 특별사법경찰과, 제주도 제주자치경찰단 수사과, 부산시 특별사법경찰과가 참여한다.
정기 회의는 연 1회 열고 필요시 수시로 회의를 개최한다.
회의 의제는 검찰 개혁 관련 대응 방안, 특사경 역량 강화 방안 등이다.
5개 광역지자체는 앞으로 시·도 전체가 참여하는 광역 협의체로 확대하는 방안을 추진한다. 필요에 따라 점진적으로 기초자치단체까지 협의체에 포함하는 방안도 연구한다.
시 관계자는 "검찰 개혁에 따른 제도 변화에 대비해 동향 공유와 공동 대응이 필요하다"며 "집값 상승, 마약 확산, 근로 감독 강화 등으로 특사경 역할 확대를 요구하는 목소리가 커지고 있다"고 말했다.
민생사법경찰은 행정 법규 위반 범죄에 대응하기 위해 사법경찰권을 부여받은 행정기관 공무원이다. 민생사법경찰은 그간 검사의 지휘를 받아왔는데 이번 검찰 개혁으로 향후 제도 운영에 변화가 예상된다.

Five major metropolitan governments are forming a special judicial police council to discuss follow-up measures following the abolition of the prosecutor's office.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Public Welfare Judicial Police Bureau on the 22nd, a special judicial police council of five major metropolitan governments will be formed under Seoul's leadership.
Participants are heads of special judicial police dedicated organizations (or departments) from five metropolitan governments.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government's Public Welfare Judicial Police Bureau, Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police Corps, Incheon City Special Judicial Police Division, Jeju Province Jeju Autonomous Police Agency Investigation Division, and Busan City Special Judicial Police Division will participate.
Regular meetings will be held once a year, with additional meetings as needed.
Meeting agendas include response plans related to prosecution reform and measures to strengthen special judicial police capabilities.
The five metropolitan governments plan to expand into a metropolitan council in which all cities and provinces participate. They are also studying a plan to gradually include basic local governments in the council as needed.
A city official said, "It is necessary to share trends and jointly respond in preparation for institutional changes following prosecution reform," adding "Voices are growing louder demanding expanded roles for special judicial police due to rising housing prices, drug proliferation, and strengthened labor supervision."
Public welfare judicial police are public officials of administrative agencies granted judicial police powers to respond to crimes violating administrative laws. Public welfare judicial police have been under the direction of prosecutors, but changes in system operation are expected with this prosecution reform.
