채드윅국제학교 방문, 학생 격려

인천광역시의회 유승분 의원(국민의힘·연수구3)은 13일 채드윅국제학교를 방문해 디지털 세대 간 격차 해소를 위해 활동해 온 학생들을 격려하고, 향후 협력 방향을 논의했다고 14일 밝혔다.

이날 간담회에는 테드 힐(Ted Hill) 총괄교장과 교직원, 1대1 어르신 디지털 교육을 주도했던 김지안·변규리(12학년) 양이 참석했다.

학생들 활동 소감

학생들은 "디지털 기술이 빠르게 발전할수록 오히려 어르신들이 소외되는 경우를 많이 봤다"며 "교육을 통해 세대 간 이해를 넓히고, 디지털 격차를 줄일 수 있어 보람을 느꼈다"고 말했다.

유승분 의원 평가

유승분 의원은 "학생들이 단순한 봉사를 넘어 실제 현장의 문제를 인식하고, 어르신들의 디지털 역량 강화를 위해 스스로 교육자료를 제작·운영했다는 점이 매우 인상 깊다"고 말했다.

유 의원은 "배움은 앎을 실천하는 것인 만큼 이런 청소년 활동이 제도적 지원과 연계돼 지속 가능한 시민교육으로 발전하길 바란다"고 강조했다.

채드윅국제학교 교육 프로그램

채드윅국제학교 측은 "학생들이 지난해부터 복지관을 찾아 매주 1대1 실습 중심으로 스마트폰, 키오스크, 온라인 쇼핑, 카카오톡 등 실생활 중심의 교육을 진행하고 있다"고 설명했다.

테드 힐 총괄교장 입장

테드 힐 총괄교장은 "학생들이 지역사회와 함께 성장하며 세대 간 이해를 넓히고 있다는 점이 자랑스럽다"며 "이런 의미 있는 활동을 학교 차원에서도 적극 지원하겠다"고 말했다.

글로벌캠퍼스 협력 제안

유승분 의원은 "인천에는 세계적 교육기관이 모여 있지만 지역사회와의 교류가 아직 활발하지 않다"며 "국제학교와 글로벌 대학이 함께 사회공헌형 프로그램을 추진해 인천시민과 상생하는 교육모델을 만들어야 한다"고 했다.

채드윅 교직원 화답

채드윅 교직원들은 "현재 일부 비어 있는 공간을 활용해 지역주민 대상 영어 및 디지털 교육 프로그램을 운영하는 방안을 검토할 수 있다"며 "학교의 장점을 살려 시민들에게 실질적 도움이 되는 교육 프로그램을 함께 기획하고 싶다"고 답했다.

협력 네트워크 구축 제안

유 의원은 "좋은 아이디어는 실행될 때 의미가 있다"며 "학교·의회·지역기관이 함께 참여하는 협력 네트워크를 구축해 교육의 연속성과 확산성을 높이자"고 제안했다.

유 의원은 "이러한 교류 성과를 시민들과 공유하고, 언론과 정책적 지원으로 이어질 수 있도록 노력하겠다"고 밝혔다.

Incheon Metropolitan City Council member Yoo Seung-bun (People Power Party, Yeonsu-gu 3) visited Chadwick International School on the 13th to encourage students who have been working to bridge the digital generation gap and discussed future cooperation directions, she announced on the 14th.

The meeting was attended by Principal Ted Hill, faculty members, and students Kim Ji-an and Byun Gyu-ri (12th grade) who led the 1-on-1 digital education for seniors.

Students' impressions of activities

The students said, "As digital technology develops rapidly, we have seen many cases where seniors are actually marginalized," and added, "We felt rewarded by being able to broaden intergenerational understanding and reduce the digital divide through education."

Assemblyman Yoo Seung-bun said, "I am very impressed that the students went beyond simple volunteer work to recognize actual field problems and produced and operated educational materials themselves to strengthen seniors' digital capabilities."

Assemblyman Yoo emphasized, "Since learning means putting knowledge into practice, I hope these youth activities will be linked with institutional support and develop into sustainable civic education."

Chadwick International School educational program

Chadwick International School explained, "Since last year, students have been visiting welfare centers weekly to conduct practical life-centered education on smartphones, kiosks, online shopping, and KakaoTalk through 1-on-1 hands-on training."

Principal Ted Hill said, "I am proud that students are growing together with the local community and broadening intergenerational understanding," and added, "The school will actively support these meaningful activities."

Proposal for global campus cooperation

Assemblyman Yoo Seung-bun said, "Although world-class educational institutions are gathered in Incheon, exchanges with the local community are not yet active," and added, "International schools and global universities must jointly promote social contribution programs to create an educational model that coexists with Incheon citizens."

Chadwick faculty response

Chadwick faculty members responded, "We can consider operating English and digital education programs for local residents by utilizing some currently empty spaces," and added, "We would like to jointly plan educational programs that take advantage of the school's strengths and provide practical help to citizens."

Proposal to build a cooperative network

Assemblyman Yoo proposed, "Good ideas are meaningful when implemented," and "Let's build a cooperative network in which schools, councils, and local institutions participate together to increase the continuity and scalability of education."

Assemblyman Yoo said, "I will actively work to share these exchange results with citizens and lead to media and policy support."
