◆ 이지호 소위, 해군사관학교서 임관

이재용 삼성전자 회장 아들 이지호(24) 신임 소위가 28일 해군 장교로 임관했다. 이지호 소위는 이날 오후 경남 창원시 진해구 해군사관학교 연병장에서 열린 '제139기 해군·해병대 사관후보생 수료 및 임관식'에서 소위 계급장을 달았다. 이지호 소위는 "대한민국 국민으로서 국가에 대한 책임감과 보탬이 되는 방향을 모색하던 중 지원하게 됐다"며 "해군 장교로 지원한 것에 무한한 자부심을 느낀다"고 말했다.

◆ 미국 시민권 포기 후 입대, 기수 대표로 활약

이지호 소위는 한·미 복수 국적자였으나 해군 장교로 병역 의무를 이행하기 위해 미국 시민권을 포기한 뒤 입대했다. 이지호 소위는 기수 대표로 발탁돼 제병 지휘를 맡아 대열을 정렬·통솔했다. 행사장에는 부친 이재용 회장과 조모 홍라희 리움미술관 명예관장이 참석해 단상에 올라 이지호 소위 양 어깨에 직접 계급장을 달아줬다. 모친 임세령 대상 부회장과 이모 임상민 대상 부사장 등도 참석해 새 출발을 축하했다.

◆ 139기 신임 장교 89명 배출

이날 임관식에서는 해군 75명(여군 18명), 해병대 14명(여군 3명) 등 총 89명 신임 장교가 배출됐다. 국방부장관상은 박소은 소위(27)와 조민규 소위(22)가 수상했다. 강동길 해군참모총장이 강정호 해군교육사령관에게 "신임 소위들의 휴가를 하루 더 연장해 달라"고 즉석 요청하자 신임 장교들은 큰 환호를 보냈다. 139기 신임 장교들은 앞으로 병과별 초등 군사교육을 거쳐 실무 부대에 배치돼 국방 임무를 수행한다.

◆ Renounced U.S. Citizenship Before Enlistment, Served as Class Representative

Ensign Lee Ji-ho held dual Korean-U.S. citizenship but renounced his U.S. citizenship to fulfill his military duty as a Navy officer before enlisting. Ensign Lee was selected as the class representative and commanded the troops, aligning and leading the formation. Chairman Lee Jae-yong and Honorary Director Hong Ra-hee of Leeum Museum of Art attended the ceremony and personally pinned the rank insignia on Ensign Lee's shoulders on the podium. His mother, Daesang Vice Chairman Lim Se-ryung, and aunt, Daesang Vice President Lim Sang-min, also attended to celebrate his new beginning.

◆ 89 New Officers of 139th Class Commissioned

A total of 89 new officers were commissioned at the ceremony, including 75 Navy officers (18 female) and 14 Marine Corps officers (3 female). Ensign Park So-eun (27) and Ensign Cho Min-gyu (22) received the Minister of National Defense Award. When Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Kang Dong-gil made an impromptu request to Naval Education Command Commander Kang Jeong-ho to extend the new ensigns' leave by one day, the new officers responded with loud cheers. The 139th class of new officers will undergo basic military training by branch and be assigned to operational units to perform national defense duties.
