경찰이 대규모 회원정보 유출 사태와 관련해 쿠팡 본사에 대한 강제수사에 착수했다.
서울경찰청은 9일 오전부터 수사관 17명을 투입해 서울 송파구 쿠팡 본사에 대한 압수수색을 진행하고 있다고 밝혔다.
서울경찰청 관계자는 "이번 압수수색은 사건을 정확히 파악하기 위한 필수적인 조치"라며 "확보된 디지털 증거 등을 바탕으로 개인정보 유출자와 유출 경로, 원인 등 사건의 전반적인 사실관계를 종합적으로 규명할 예정"이라고 밝혔다. 쿠팡이 공식 제출한 자료만으로는 확인에 한계가 있어 객관적이고 구체적인 자료 확보가 필요하다는 설명이다.
경찰은 최근 밝혀진 3370만건 규모 쿠팡 회원정보 유출 사건과 관련해 지난달 25일 쿠팡의 고소장을 접수한 뒤 본격 수사에 나섰다. 28일에는 고소인 조사를 진행했다.
전날 경찰청은 정례 기자간담회에서 쿠팡이 임의제출한 자료와 범행에 사용된 IP를 토대로 분석을 진행 중이라며, 필요에 따라 강제수사 등 추가 절차에 나설 가능성을 열어뒀다.

Police Raid Coupang Headquarters Over Leak of 33.7 Million User Records
SEOUL — Police have launched a compulsory investigation into Coupang's headquarters in connection with a massive customer data breach.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on Dec. 9 that 17 investigators began executing a search and seizure warrant at Coupang's headquarters in Songpa-gu, Seoul.
A police official stated, "This search is an essential measure to accurately determine the facts of the case. Based on digital evidence secured, we will comprehensively investigate the perpetrator, leak channels and causes." Police explained that materials officially submitted by Coupang were insufficient, necessitating the collection of objective and detailed evidence.
Police began a full investigation after receiving Coupang's criminal complaint on Nov. 25 regarding the leak of 33.7 million customer records. Investigators interviewed the complainant on Nov. 28.
At a regular press briefing on Dec. 8, the National Police Agency stated it was analyzing voluntarily submitted materials and IP addresses used in the breach, leaving open the possibility of compulsory investigative measures if necessary.
