◆ 20년 방치된 美군 부대 마크 제거 완료
경기도·경기도북부소방재난본부·의정부시가 의정부 천보산 주한미군 부대 마크 제거 작업을 완료했다. 천보산 내 두 지점(90㎡, 26㎡)에 남겨진 미2사단 소속 3개 부대 페인트 자국과 상징물을 제거했다. 1970년대부터 1990년대까지 주둔한 미군들이 남긴 인위적인 상징물을 없애 천보산 본래 모습을 되찾았다.
◆ 2006년 첫 제거 후 20년 만에 정리
2007년 미군 부대 이전 후에도 페인트 잔해가 천보산에 남아 자연 경관을 훼손했다. 2006년 한 차례 제거 작업을 실시했으나 20년간 방치된 페인트 잔해를 이번에 완전히 정리했다. 경기도 균형발전기획실장은 "마크 제거는 단순 페인트 제거를 넘어 환경 보호 중요성을 알리는 계기"라고 전했다.
◆ 3차 사전 점검으로 안전 확보
경기도북부소방재난본부와 북부안전특별점검단은 11월 16일부터 3차례 사전 답사를 진행했다. 충분한 안전 장비를 확보해 작업자 안전을 최우선으로 지켰다. 경기도는 주한미군 주둔 지역 인근 자연환경 훼손 사례를 전수 조사하고 지속적인 자연환경 복원을 추진할 계획이다.

Gyeonggi Province, Gyeonggi Northern Fire Service Headquarters, and Uijeongbu City completed the removal of U.S. military unit marks from Cheonbosan Mountain in Uijeongbu. They removed paint marks and symbols left by three units of the U.S. 2nd Division at two locations on Cheonbosan Mountain (90㎡ and 26㎡). By eliminating the man-made symbols left by U.S. troops stationed from the 1970s through the 1990s, they restored Cheonbosan Mountain to its original state.
◆ Paint Residue Removed 20 Years After 2006 Initial Cleanup
Paint residue remained on Cheonbosan Mountain even after the U.S. military unit relocated in 2007, damaging the natural landscape. Although cleanup operations were conducted in 2006, paint residue that had been left unattended for 20 years was fully removed this time. The director of Gyeonggi Province's Balanced Development Planning Office stated, "Mark removal transcends simple paint removal; it serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about environmental protection."
◆ Safety Ensured Through Three Preliminary Inspections
Gyeonggi Northern Fire Service Headquarters and the Northern Safety Special Inspection Team conducted three preliminary site surveys beginning November 16. They secured sufficient safety equipment to prioritize worker safety. Gyeonggi Province plans to comprehensively investigate natural environmental damage near U.S. military stationing areas and continuously promote natural environment restoration projects.
